Johnny Cakes

This is hands down my favorite recipe that I eat for breakfast, lunch or dinner. For breakfast add a slice of cheese. For lunch have it with Fry Fish. For dinner replace it with your dinner roll.

I also use this recipe for my to make Pates as well. Just roll it thinner than you would for the Johnny Cake and add the meat filling.

You’ll find that Johnny Cakes are very quick and easy to make. This recipe yields approximately 14-16 Johnny Cakes depending on the size.

3 cups flour

2 tbs baking powder

1 tsp salt

3 tbs sugar

1.5 tbs butter

1 1/4 cup Carnation Milk

1 tbs water

Oil for frying

Mix dry ingredients together. Add wet ingredients and mix. Once combined, begin to knead the dough until it is well combined. Cover the dough with a clean towel and let rest for 30-40 minutes. Once the dough has rested, knead it for about 30 seconds. Divide dough into balls. 

Flatten dough balls with the palm of your hand and slice the dough with a knife or pierce it with a fork.

Heat oil to 350 degrees. Once the oil is hot, carefully drop the dough in the hot oil. Brown on each side.











Once cooked, remove Johnny Cake from the oil, drain excess oil on a paper towel and enjoy.
